ABSTRACT
The article presents information on fantasy play for children. If pretend play is encouraged, no child will be left without a chair when the music stops. Some school people feel that because young children engage in magical thinking, people must pull them onto another track as early as possible; having added extra years of schooling to their lives, people are emboldened to counteract fantasy play with reality-based activities. Preschool and kindergarten children see musical chairs quite differently than older children.
