ABSTRACT
The article presents information on miniaturization in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry. Within the past decade the field of miniaturization in chemical analysis has dramatically increased, fuelled by experience of the small sample volumes in capillary gas chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. In some cases the unfavorable surface-to-volume ratios in miniaturization can generate problems. Among the drawbacks is the risk of analyte adsorption to walls and interfaces. Another problem is optical interference at the walls of the sample container hampering detection.
