ABSTRACT
The article reports that China may become a net naphtha importer in 2005. A drastic demand increase of naphtha much higher than the domestic output increase, may see China becoming a net naphtha importer in 2005. The demand increase of naphtha will basically be satisfied by the domestic production. Nevertheless, the 800 000 tons per annum ethylene unit in Nanhai petrochemical project will import feedstock from abroad. The petrochemical plant, located in Guangdong Huizhou, plans to start production in the fourth quarter of 2005 and around 2.4 million tons of naphtha or gas condensate will be imported a year.
