ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a panel discussion on the media and business at the recent Financial Executives Institute Conference on Current Financial Issues. The panel members include Dan Dorfman from "Chicago Tribune Press Service," Richard F. Janssen from "Business Week," Robert T. Metz from "The Wall Street Journal," John J. Quindlen from E.I. du Pont de Nemours &Co. Inc. According to Dorfman one of the great problems he faces is related to corporate executives who flagrantly lie. On asking why is the negative picked up, when a press release is 95 percent positive and 5 percent negative, Janssen thinks that most corporate releases attempt to be 100 percent positive. So if one finds that they admit to 5 percent negative, there is probably a 25 to 30 percent negative.
