The article presents information on the performance of Asian American students in mathematics. African American, Mexican American, and American Indian students from families with incomes of $50,000 a year and up still do not score as high on the mathematics portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test as do Asian American students from families with incomes of $6,000 and below. The Japanese in Japan have a much higher proportion of their college population specializing in mathematical and technical fields than do American college students.
