ABSTRACT
This article focuses on pension fund management. There was no doubt that the pension plan trustees were in a fullfledged state of panic. The time was October 1974, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average had collapsed to a depressingly low 600. Pushing the panic button during a market shakeout is one of the mistakes that plan sponsors make in managing their pension fund managers. These mistakes cost U.S. pension funds hundreds of millions of dollars annually, both in unrealized gains and in outright losses.
