ABSTRACT
Chicago-based Equity Office Properties, a property-management company, manages 800 buildings nationwide, and, before its migration, had 187 office locations, grouped into 12 regions, with regional headquarters sites staffed by 5 to 20 employees each. The company was looking to streamline this structure, and also wanted to get its employees out into the field, visiting buildings rather than staying in the office. So the company was looking for a solution that offered mobility as well as support for emerging technologies such as voice over IP (VOIP) and related contact center technologies. Equity Office's carrier, MCI, is certainly bullish on Private IP. Michael Marcellin, senior director of data product marketing, said the service is MCI's fastest-growing, with 175 percent year-over-year growth. He claimed that three-quarters of MCI's traditional frame relay customers "are looking to move to an IP-based solution" sometime in the future. Marcellin sees VOIP as a big potential driver for users to migrate toward MPLS-based services.
