ABSTRACT
For communications research, the decade of the eighties in Mexico and Latin America was a period of crisis in the sense of a search for new reformulations and readjustments in response to the serious questions which were posed with the intention of radically transforming the "communicational episteme. " In this text an attempt is made to rethink the historical and current formation of the field of communications in Mexico. It discusses the centralization of communication research in the country and in Western Mexico.
