This article reports that Cox Communications Inc. has picked Tulsa in Oklahoma as its second site to launch Internet Protocol (IP) based telephony services. Roanoke, Virginia was the first. Cox is using an Atlanta based Softswitch Inc. to support Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in both markets, notes Mike Pacifico, the director of marketing for Cox Digital Telephone. Twelve of Cox's 14 telephony markets use traditional circuit-switched technology, but the MSO is beginning to show much more confidence in its IP-based brother.
