ABSTRACT
The article reports that the IIE Board of Trustees and staff are drawing lesions from Jim Collins's book "Good to Great." Al Soyster, president-elect of IIE and the individual charged with ensuring that the August meeting maintained a strategic focus, says he stumbled across "Good to Great" in an airport concept. In brief, Collins suggests that the hedgehog is a creature that achieves success by relying on a single course of action when pressed, rolling up into a ball. But that one thing works, having enabled the creature to thrive for millions of years. And so it is with the great companies that have managed to discover and develop the one thing that ensures their success.
