The enemy within

Blanche, Ed
November 2004
Middle East;Nov2004, Issue 350, p18
The article reports on political developments in Israel. Jewish right-wing zealots step up their threats on the life of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as political tension over his proposed withdrawal from Gaza mounts. Right-wing opposition in Israel to Sharon's plan to disengage from the Gaza Strip and abandon the Jewish settlements there is mounting by the day. As political tension mounts to a level unseen since the murderous right-wing backlash that followed the 1993 Oslo accords, and led to the November 1995 assassination of political leader Yitzhak Rabin by a right-wing zealot who believed the Israeli premier had sold out what religious Jews consider their biblical birthright in the West Bank.
