Basel II Worries Tighten Bankbooks

European banks may soon start giving the cold shoulder to their lower-rated clients without knowing the ultimate impact of the pending Basel II regulatory agreements--set to be completed by 2007--and Europe's high-yield market stands to benefit from every snub. He's accounting reforms are final, and while analysts say it is hard to predict just how much banks will have to alter their lending strategies, European banks are nonetheless already starting to question their lending relationships with risky, low-quality issuers.
