Generic frameworks: do they work for IT?

The article sheds light on the role of generic frameworks in information technology (IT). There is a clear argument that an IT professional needs influencing skills as well as interpersonal and analytical skills, and it could be reasoned that 'sales and marketing' is a euphemism for them. But there are other personal skills, and to limit them to sales and marketing is restrictive. The framework operates in three dimensions, skills, levels and descriptors. Skills are grouped into six categories according to their business context: strategy and planning, management and administration, development and implementation, sales and marketing, service delivery and use.
