ABSTRACT
This article reports that Altoona, Pennsylvania-based Sheetz Inc. decided to take the bull by the horns and create its own distribution system for the 298 convienence-stores the company operates. The company and embarked on a year-and-a-half long journey before the first truck left the new Sheetz warehouse. After Sheetz made the initial decision to go it on their own — a decision that was five or six years in the making — the company developed a team, selected the location and then integrated the entire plan. To make the move from Fleming to its own distribution network, Sheetz worked with the distributor to ensure a smooth transition. Both companies met often so Sheetz could keep Fleming up to date on its progress.
