ABSTRACT
This article reports that convenience store distributors deal with changing economic realities and retailer wish lists. Looking to cut costs to margin-squeezed retailers while improving efficiency and service levels, convenience distributors of all sizes are being challenged by retail consolidation and bankruptcies, the changing face of the cigarette business and a more urgent call for new or unique products. McLane Grocery Distribution Inc., the industry's largest wholesaler, is more thorough when evaluating the financial health of potential customers, noted Peter Leavitt, vice president of sales for the Temple, Texas-based company.
