Aluminum In, Glass Out

This article reports that Diageo PLC experimented with an aluminum bottle for its Smirnoff Ice experimented in 1999; more recently, Heineken NV branched out from its distinctive green glass bottle and began selling aluminum cans shaped like beer kegs nationally. Finally, Pittsburgh Brewing Co., maker of Iron City Beer, has partnered with Alcoa Inc., the world's largest aluminum maker, to produce aluminum bottles that keep beer colder for as much as 50 minutes longer than a glass bottle, according to Alcoa officials.
