ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Municipal bonds finned as aggressive bids for new issues and a rebound in the U.S. Treasury market which provided support to the tax-exempt sector. The primary led the secondary municipal bond market higher as the bid side improved a basis point or two in response to strong interest for new issues. Market tone improved after participants took a closer look at the September 2004 consumer price index report and decided that earlier fears of an unexpected pickup in inflation were unfounded, according to Ralph Axel, senior vice president of fixed-income strategy at HSBC Securities.
