ABSTRACT
The article focuses on Karen Malt, an instructor at the Williams S. Key Correctional Center (WSKCC) in Fort supply, Oklahoma, who has won the Correctional Education Association Region V Teacher of the Year award. Malt, who teaches Adult Basic Education and GED preparation, has worked in the field of correctional education for 15 years. She has been instrumental in developing an intensive study program that is designed to accelerate the time it takes for a student to prepare for the GED exam. She has coordinated with the literacy teacher to assist students after they have reached an 8.0 academic level.
