ABSTRACT
This article reports that enterprises are buying voice over IP (VOIP) products in significant quantity, the issue becomes not simply the technology, but the procurement itself: What's the best strategy for buying VOIP gear? Not surprisingly, one of the debaters will be a representative of Cisco Systems. Rick Moran, VP, product/technology marketing for Cisco, will argue for the benefits of using a single vendor as your main source. Squaring off against him and returning for his third VoiceCon Great Debate will be Phil Edholm, enterprise solutions chief technologist at Nor- tel Networks. The Great Debate is always one of the liveliest and most talked-about sessions at VoiceCon, and this year should continue that tradition. Also returning in 2005 are a pair of half-day Special Focus tracks. For the second year, we'll devote back-to-back breakout sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday to the hottest topics in the future of converged networking. On Tuesday, the Special Focus topic will be Mobility. The 1 p.m. session is entitled, "Mobility in the Converged Network: Network Requirements. This session will focus on what you need to do to enable your converged network to support mobile endpoints.
