ABSTRACT
The article focuses on books on international relations. One of the books is "Power and the Pursuit of Peace: Theory and Practice in the History of Relations Between States," by F.H. Hinsley. This quite impressive study by a lecturer in history at Cambridge University will be of great interest to the diplomatic historian, to the student of international relations and to those concerned with the problem of peace. After a historical critique of peace proposals since the seventeenth century, Mr. Hinsley examines the structure of the modern States' system and the progress of international relations in the U.S. In all these areas he offers many fresh and perceptive observations, including a most interesting discussion of the origins of the Second World War and the present balance of power. The book "The Revolution in World Politics," edited by Morton A. Kaplan, has twenty essays interpreting the meaning of the political revolution resulting from the great number of new aspiring nations, the Communist challenge, and the confusion of democratic powers in facing both the Communist bloc and the new nations. The papers are the outcome of a project sponsored by the Center of International Studies at Princeton.
