ABSTRACT
Focuses on the need to improve the economic conditions of farmers in the U.S. in order to increase the agricultural productivity in the country to achieve victory during the World War II. Charges that the U.S. Farm Security Administration (FSA) paying poll taxes for some of its clients in Alabama; Charges brought before the Byrd Economy Committee by the American Farm Bureau Federation and Judge Bob Green of Hale County, Alabama; Testification by Congressman C.B. Baldwin that FSA was approving loans to clients who needed money to pay present or back poll taxes; Charges on FSA rehabilitating those farm facilities to which it was making loans; Role played by Ed O'Neal, president of Farm Bureau Federation, against FSA; Discussion about the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 which provided grants for extension work to states willing to match federal funds; Realization of advantages due to close contact with state agricultural colleges.
