The article presents information on the status of business development of Barney's New York Inc. With luxury goods the hottest niche in the retailing industry these days, market watchers are wondering why Barney's has not been snatched up since its private equity owners Bay Harbor Management LC and Whippoorwill Associates Inc. announced in June that Barneys was on the block. Some market watchers think that Barney's focus on high-end men's clothing could be turning off some strategic buyers, as that's a risky part of retailing. A financial buyer's management could take the store private, grow the store, adding millions of dollars in value, and then set it up for a public offering.
