ABSTRACT
This article reports on the comments of Alf Roberts, Chief Executive of Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). IEE may be the most consistent feature of the electronics industry in this country, but subtle changes are taking place behind the imposing fa& ccedil; ade of its London headquarters in Savoy Place. Clearly the IEE was never a trade union-style representative organisation for its 125,000 plus members, but the chief executive is now choosing to emphasise the Institution's role as an information resource for its members. Roberts is also keen to see the IEE increase its influence by spreading its membership both in Great Britain and overseas, essentially becoming a global "learning organisation" for the electronics industry. Roberts does not believe this will weaken the IEE's relevance to its electronics members.
