The article reports that hampered by a costly and outdated legacy system, the British Show Jumping Association decided to start from scratch with a new system that would be fit for champions. The British Show Jumping Association's (BSJA) information technology (IT) system is the organisation's lifeblood on which 100,000 plus members increasingly depend. So, when the sport governing body decided to completely overhaul it, future proofing and reducing maintenance and development costs were top of the agenda. When the BSJA put in its cache" green-screen"-based legacy system in 1982, it was the best recording system available, modeled on a medical record filing system in the US. Users worked on disparate systems, including Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and various accounting packages, and relied on double entry keying and manual support processes. The BSJA estimates it was spending £ 30,000 a year outsourcing the database alone, and the same amount again in other related costs to keep the system up to date. INSETS: Project overview;Profile.
