The article reports that the engineering consultancy Arup is rolling out an email management program that is designed to make project data easier to store. The Mail Manager program, which is a plug-in for Microsoft Outlook, has been developed by Arup's software division, Oasys. It is currently being used by around 25 per cent of the firm's 7,000 employees, and has just been released to the external market. It was developed to meet demand for a consistent way to store emails with other project data. All the emails, which are probably one of the most important bits because that is where the conversations go on, were stuck in Outlook, said Alan Ogden, the associate at Arup who handles the training and support for Oasys. Ogden uses remote control software to teach IT managers within Arup how to deploy Mail Manager. He can then guide them through the installation and configuration process over the phone. Mail Manager users are taught how it works during a short lunchtime meeting. Ogden said this is enough to teach them the basics.
