ABSTRACT
This article reports that the headlines last week trumpeted Home Box Office Inc.'s (HBO's) Emmy Awards triumph, 16 awards in the major prime-time categories, as continuing evidence of cable's ascendancy. While HBO has dominated the scene in recent years, the Emmy wealth was still more widely distributed than during this year's 56th annual awards. Even last year, basic cable had a bumper crop of wins. TNT's "Door to Door" won six awards, including outstanding movie. The post-mortem on this year's major prime-time Emmys is that no one, not basic cable or the broadcast networks, could stop HBO's juggernaut mini-series "Angels in America."
