ABSTRACT
The mathematical model constructed in the first part of our paper is used to numerically investigate the development of the beam-plasma instability in a traveling-wave tube amplifier in the presence of a residual neutral gas. It is shown that the self-generation of ion acoustic waves in a plasma-filled amplifier can give rise to a modulation regime with a rigid excitation threshold. The dependence of the threshold for the self-modulation instability on the amplifier parameters is determined. The effect of self-modulation on the spectral and energy characteristics of the amplifier is analyzed.
