ABSTRACT
The article discusses reasons behind cancellation of news analyst Eric Sevareid's Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) newscast. CBS explained that he was simply too editorial in his questioning of the State Department's ban on the entry of the U.S. newsmen to China. Sevareid cited an editorial proposal by the Long Island daily, Newsday, for systematic press conference procedures, which would enable Washington correspondents to get to the bottom of controversies. Washington news editor James G. Roper assures that no pressure from the State Department was involved.
