ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the book "The Selected Letters of Thomas Gray," edited by Joseph Wood Krutch. Poet Gray was fussy, learned, over-precise, neurotic, and given to constant worrying about his health. He was also the author of the most famous poem in the English language and of a great many letters. "The Great Letters Series," in which this latest selection of Gray's letters appears, aims to present only the world's great letter writers, as opposed to great writers who wrote letters of no particular distinction. Gray's correspondence certainly qualifies him for admission to this select circle.
