ABSTRACT
The article focuses on communism in Italy. Rome is in danger once again. The threat this time comes neither from Communism nor from Fascism. The threat comes from something called the new Piano Regolatore, a latter-day version of former dictator Benito Mussolini's City Planning Regulation Scheme of 1931, which is now awaiting final approval by the Superior Council of the Ministry of Public Works. The Plan calls for cutting a 16-yard tunnel from the Via Vittorio Venito where many streets and hundreds of houses, many of them historic or artistic treasures, will be destroyed to make way for a huge 70-yard by 60-yard square.
