ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the book "The Man on a Donkey," by H.F.M. Prescott. This novel on the subject is not only lively and well ordered in form but reaches at times a profundity of interpretation, mainly through Prescott's chief imaginative success, the figure of a half-mad but veritable visionary. It was a daring and difficult thing for the novelist to attempt, but it comes off made. The author's concern is rather with the conflict set up within serious and honorable men when they were pushed to a choice between submission to the throne and adherence to their religious convictions.
