ABSTRACT
The article critically analyzes the book "Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt," by Eric Gutkind, on Jewish religion. The book is about Israel, which as a "founded" people in contradistinction to the "biological," "racial" or "tribal" nation has all the potentialities for serving as the spiritual focus or center of genuine world community. The founded people is not a natural grouping such as a race or nation but purely a human creation, and as such contains the maximum possibilities for human growth and evolution. But if the founded people is not a natural unity, it is also not a supernatural one. Israel is not a corpus mysticum in a metaphysical or other-worldly sense.
