ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the book "King of Comedy," by Mack Sennett. It was a story of the Magic of the flying custard, pies and the twenty cops, piling out of one Model-T,and in part it was the magic of a genuine and rather heartbreaking love story-the love of Mack Sennett for the completely adorable Mabel Norman. She is so much the heroine of the book that Sennett credits her with throwing the first custard pie, not by design, but because she had it handy. Sennett knows that one reason the Keystone custards were so much more effective than those of, his rivals was that a Keystone comedian never spoiled the throw by appearing to expect it.
