This article presents information about the book "The American As Reformer," by Arthur M. Schlesinger. A citizen of the U.S. as a reformer, according to Schlesinger, is first of all a private citizen, for as soon as he gets a political job he becomes an administrator. The reformer is for abolishing every evil assoon as it becomes manifest, the major party is for abolishing no evil until it becomes unendurable. The pressure group is the best means yet devised for convincing a major party that a specific evil is in fact unendurable, hence its immense development in recent years.
