ABSTRACT
This article presents information on the book "Hadrian's Memoirs," by Marguerite Yourcenar. From the historical standpoint, Yourcenar takes the view that, in a work which undertakes the revivification of a personality by the purposeful infusion of the author's will, it is nonetheless comforting to have as much accuracy as possible with regard to the facts, since this will enrich its human significance. But perhaps this is just what is so original about the book's design: the refreshing attitude that the facts help, but prose and poetry have no intention of fighting them.
