ABSTRACT
This article presents information on books that are related to music. It is informed that apart from a routine biographical part, the book "Aaron Copland," by Arthur Berger is essentially an explanation of and an apologia for Copland's work as a composer. It is opined that the source of Copland's strength is not altogether in his composition. Copland is also a teacher, a critic, a conductor and an impresario of sorts- - in spite of the fact that he does not hold an academic post, write for a periodical, lead an orchestra or manage a performing group in any constant or regular way. As far as Herbert Weinstock's "Music As an Art" is concerned, it is opined that the book might well be taken as an antidote to Paul Henry Lang's monumental but occasionally galling Music in Western Civilization. Weinstock has contrived a history of Western music which is thorough, dignified, without an excess of sociological speculation, and suitable for anybody who can read music.
