New Republic;6/23/52, Vol. 126 Issue 25, p21
The article presents information on the book "Homage to Catalonia," by George Orwell. The book presents unrelenting descriptions of trench warfare. In the opinion of the author the weakness of the book is its politics. Various passages in the book achieve their effect not only from their realism but from the Author's identification with the revolutionary workers and intellectuals, both Spanish and English, with whom he fought. The author opined that Orwell's enthusiastic vision of an equalitarian socialism might, have been paired with a recognition of the fact that "the road to socialism is paved with bedbugs."
