ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the political and social transformation in the Soviet Union. The significance of the present Soviet trade offensive is a shift in emphasis from peace to bread. So, long as the greatest dread was war, the magical word was peace. Now it is to be trade because, as unemployment grows frighteningly in consumer-goods industries in Great Britain, Belgium, and Holland, remains static ,and high in Italy and West Germany, and threatens even in, the U.S. as the result of overproduction, greater trade seems to promise jobs, hence hold off the spectre of hunger.
