ABSTRACT
The article discusses the book "So It Seemed," by William L. Chenery and throws light on the professional career of Chenery, the author of the book, as editor for four long decades. Chenery was a newspaper and magazine editor for four decades, until he retired a year or two ago. The first fifteen years of his adult life he was a newspaperman on a half dozen papers in Chicago, Denver and New York, most of which were shot out from under him. Then he was editor of Collier's Weekly for eighteen years, and publisher for seven more. Chenery's career went on to embrace two world wars, the political and economic emancipation of women, the greatest of all booms followed by the greatest of all depressions, the coining of the atomic age and the mounting tensions of the Cold War.
