ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the book "Discovery," edited by, among others, Vance Bourjaily. It first appeared in 1953. Anyone unhappy about American writing today should be heartened by reading "Discovery." He may not find anything absolutely first rate, but neither will he doubt the vigor and resourcefulness of the work. In less than three years "Discovery" has published 70 stories, some of them much longer than conventional periodicals print, 89 poems, and a dozen pieces of non-fiction. Besides, it has discovered 17 new writers.
