New Republic;11/23/53, Vol. 129 Issue 17, p19
This article focuses on the book "Poland: White Eagle on a Red Field," by Samuel Sharp. Professor Sharp holds that American policy toward Poland is, has been, and will be, a function of America's relations with Germany and with Russia, the two great powers between which the relatively impotent polish population is sandwiched. At Yalta in 1945, the Americans acquiesced in the recreation of the Polish state under Russian auspices because Soviet troops were already ins occupation of the country and there was no way of driving them out, and because the Americans wanted Soviet help for their then impending invasion of Japan.
