Approximately 70,000 people are seeking reimbursement for automobile damage allegedly caused by faulty, sulfur-ridden fuel sold by Shell Oil Co. and Texaco Inc. gas stations in May. U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler, who is overseeing the U.S. government's $280 billion racketeering case against major tobacco companies, rejected a bid by British American Tobacco PLC's Australian subsidiary to keep some paperwork concerning the company's document retention policy out of the trial. 7-Eleven Inc. has purchased American Express Co.'s automated teller machines in its stores for about $44 million, as part of the company's ongoing push into the financial services arena.
