ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Oklahoma Senate is scheduled to meet this afternoon to hear charges against state insurance commissioner Carroll Fisher, who was impeached September 9, 2004, by the House on five separate counts relating to neglect, corruption, and incompetence in office. Fisher, who watched the impeachment proceedings from the visitor's gallery, ignored several requests from legislators for his resignation during the hour-long session. Specific charges in the impeachment include allegations that Fisher accepted almost $20,000 in furniture from an insurance company executive after he approved the sale of a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based insurance company to a Texas-based company. The company is Basic Capital Management which has contributed at least $26,000 to Fisher's election campaign.
