This article reports that the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently published nine items that provide guidance relating to tax-exempt bonds in the 12-month period that ended June 30, 2004. The list included six of the 11 items that were on Treasury's so-called business plan, which outlines guidance and rules the Treasury expects to publish within a year's time, and three additional items that were added during the period. By comparison, the Treasury published 13 out of the 17 listed tax-exempt bond items in the same 12-month period for 2002-2003. Bond lawyers said yesterday that they were pleased with the recent guidance.
