The Venetian Biennial

Denvir, Bernard
July 1956
New Republic;7/9/56, Vol. 135 Issue 2, p20
The article presents information about the Biennale di Vezia, the biggest art event held in Venice, Italy. For the first time since the end of the 20's the Soviet Union is exhibiting at her own pavilion. Whatever changes may or may not have taken place in Russia recently, they do not seem to have trickled down to those more lowly regions where art administrators have their being. A piquant contrast to the Russians is presented by what at first sight seems a most a deliberate attempt by the Americans and the British to show what "social realism" really means in art.
