ABSTRACT
This article presents profiles W.H. Auden, who returns to Oxford University, in Oxford, England, this month to become teacher of Poetry. Auden was elected to the professorship--the first American citizen ever to hold the position--by 216 votes, over, particularly. Harold Nicholson, literary biographer and one-time member of the British Parliament. The chief hindrance to Auden's election, his professional qualifications notwithstanding, was the third class that he got in Final Schools Examinations.
