The article reports that the Sellersburg Town Council voted this week to approve a plan for the local economic development commission to issue bonds to help build a charter school in another county. The unusual plan could be a model for other charter schools in Indiana because such schools receive tax dollars but have no bonding authority. The city of New Albany, where the school is located, also must vote on the plan. The city approved a resolution earlier in support of the bonds. The conduit issuer would be the Sellersburg Economic Development Commission, which said the school building will help Sellersburg because a handful of the 220 students in Community Montessori are from the town.
