ABSTRACT
The article focuses on wireless communications and cellular phones. Some specialized configurations have integrated cellular and wired PBX systems, but this is the first such arrangement that allows voice calls to be handed off from the WLAN to the cellular network and vice versa. Further, the handoft' takes less than 100 msec, so it should be virtually unnoticeable to the user. The key is the Motorola Wireless Services Manager, a server that arranges the hand-off and provides other integration functions. That server works with the Motorola CN620 802,li/GSM cellular handset, and together they are the linchpin of the offering. The initial release of the system is not without shortcomings. The user gets a different set of features on WLAN and cellular calls, and not all cellular calls are automatically transferred to the WLAN when the user gets within range.
