ABSTRACT
The article focuses on Jeff Fugitt's article "Taming the TCO of the Mobile Enterprise." He suggests several traditional and practical management steps for controlling and minimizing costs. As voice over IP lowers the costs of all forms of transport, cellular costs should drop accordingly. However with mobility increasing in importance to the enterprise, and the wireless technology itself changing, enterprise management must really focus on other issues and solutions of mobile communications. The timing of Fugitt's article couldn't have been better, because it coincided with the announcement of a new solution for one particular problem, i.e., use of expensive cellular service on premise. That solution is the seamless convergence of voice-over-Wi-Fi with cellular voice services, allowing a connection to be automatically switched mid-call between the two types of wireless networks, rather than be interrupted and reinitiated when coverage is lost.
