ABSTRACT
The article reports that Colorado bankers are looking at bonds as a way to finance facilities for schools with religious affiliations, and bond lawyers say the specifics of each project need to be examined based on court decisions in recent years that cleared the way for these kinds of deals. Several such schools in Colorado have financed facilities this year using tax-exempt municipal bonds. Working through the Colorado Educational and Cultural Facilities Authority, schools such as Heritage Christian School and Regis Jesuit High School have accessed the muni market. Larger groups overseeing schools, including the Colorado Lutheran High School Association, have also used tax-exempt debt to raise capital.
